Signup Bonuses and Wagering Requirements Explained

Every app in this category leads with a bonus. ₹1500 free. ₹51 on signup. ₹3000 welcome bonus. The number is real, and it is almost never what the bonus is worth.

The gap between the two is the wagering requirement, and understanding it takes about three minutes.

What a wagering requirement isWhat a wagering requirement is

A bonus is not cash you can withdraw. It is credit you must stake a set number of times before any of it — or often, before any winnings at all — can be withdrawn.

That multiple is the wagering requirement, written as 20x, 30x or similar in the bonus terms.

At 20x, a ₹1,500 bonus means you must stake ₹30,000 in total before withdrawing. Not lose ₹30,000 — stake it, across however many rounds that takes.

Every game holds a house edge. Staking money through it repeatedly has a predictable average cost: the amount staked, multiplied by the edge.

For a ₹1,500 bonus at 20x — ₹30,000 of required turnover:

Read the last row again. Clearing a ₹1,500 bonus on 7 Up 7 Down is expected to cost you ₹5,001 in losses. The bonus does not make you ₹1,500 — it costs you about ₹3,500.

The headline number was real. The money you had to lose to release it was larger.

The break even ruleThe break-even rule

There is a single number that tells you whether a bonus is worth taking:

Break-even house edge = 100 ÷ wagering multiple

• At 20x, you need a game under 5.00% edge
• At 30x, under 3.33%
• At 40x, under 2.50%
• At 50x, under 2.00%

Above that line, the bonus is worth less than nothing. Below it, the bonus has real value — and the lower the edge, the more.

This is why the wagering multiple and the game you clear it on matter far more than the bonus amount. A ₹500 bonus at 10x on baccarat is worth more than a ₹3,000 bonus at 50x on a slot.

The wagering multiple is the biggest factor, but not the only one. In the bonus terms, look for:

Game weighting. Many apps count only a fraction of stakes on low-edge games — baccarat might contribute 10% toward wagering, or nothing at all. This is deliberate: it steers you off the games where a bonus is actually worth taking. Weighting can make a 20x requirement behave like 200x.

Maximum bet while clearing. A cap of, say, ₹100 per round means ₹30,000 of turnover takes at least 300 rounds.

Time limit. If the bonus expires in 7 days, ₹30,000 of turnover in a week may not be realistic at a stake you are comfortable with.

Winnings cap. Some bonuses limit what you can withdraw from bonus play regardless of what you win.

Whether a deposit is required. A "no-deposit" bonus with heavy wagering is still often better value than a deposit-match with light wagering, because you have less of your own money at risk.

Before accepting any bonus:

1. Find the wagering multiple. If the terms do not state one, do not accept the bonus.
2. Divide 100 by it. That is the highest house edge worth clearing on.
3. Check which games count, and at what weighting.
4. Compare that to our house edge figures.

If the numbers do not work, decline the bonus and play with your own deposit. You are allowed to say no to a bonus, and on a high wagering requirement it is usually the better decision.
