How to Play 7 Up 7 Down — Rules, Payouts & Odds

Two dice, three bets

7 Up 7 Down is the simplest game in any Indian gaming app. Two dice are rolled. You bet on whether the total lands below 7, above 7, or exactly on it. A round takes under fifteen seconds.

It is also, by some distance, the most expensive game on the menu. Understanding why takes about two minutes and is the most useful thing you can know before playing it.

Place your bet on one of three options:
- 7 Down — the total will be 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6
- Lucky 7 — the total will be exactly 7
- 7 Up — the total will be 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12
Two dice are rolled.
The two faces are added together.
Bets are settled. 7 Up and 7 Down pay 1:1. Lucky 7 usually pays 4:1.

There is nothing else. No second roll, no decisions after the bet.

You put ₹100 on 7 Down.

The dice come up 3 and 2. Total: 5. That is below 7, so 7 Down wins and you collect ₹100 profit.

Next round, same ₹100 on 7 Down. The dice come up 4 and 3. Total: 7.

This is the round that matters. A 7 does not count as "down" — 7 Down loses in full, and so does 7 Up. Only Lucky 7 wins. Your ₹100 is gone.

The two main bets are perfectly symmetrical. Neither is better.

Why the edge is 1667Why the edge is 16.67%

Bet ₹100 on 7 Up. You win 15 times in 36 and lose 21 times in 36:

(15 ÷ 36 × ₹100) − (21 ÷ 36 × ₹100) = ₹41.67 − ₹58.33 = −₹16.67

You lose ₹16.67 for every ₹100 staked, over the long run. That is the 16.67% edge, and it exists entirely because the 7 takes both main bets down with it.

Now Lucky 7 at 4:1: (6 ÷ 36 × ₹400) − (30 ÷ 36 × ₹100) = ₹66.67 − ₹83.33 = −₹16.67. Exactly the same.

That symmetry is unusual and worth knowing: in this game the exotic bet is not a worse deal than the simple one. Pick on variance, not on cost.

The one thing to checkThe one thing to check

Some apps pay Lucky 7 at 3:1 instead of 4:1. Then:

(6 ÷ 36 × ₹300) − (30 ÷ 36 × ₹100) = ₹50 − ₹83.33 = −₹33.33

The edge doubles to 33.33%. Same game, same dice, twice the cost. Look at the payout before you place a Lucky 7 bet — it is the only decision in 7 Up 7 Down that actually changes your odds.

Strategy

Every bet on the table costs the same — at 4:1

This is the unusual thing about 7 Up 7 Down. Up, Down and Lucky 7 all carry an identical 16.67% house edge when Lucky 7 pays 4:1. In most casino games the exotic bet is worse than the simple one; here they are level. Which you pick changes the variance, not the cost.

Check the Lucky 7 payout before you play

At 4:1 the edge is 16.67%. At 3:1 it is 33.33% — double. Some apps quietly use the shorter payout. This is the single most valuable thing to check in the game, and it takes five seconds.

The 7 is the whole house edge

Up and Down each cover 15 of 36 outcomes. If the 7 did not exist they would cover 15 of 30 apiece and the game would be even money. The 6 combinations that make a 7 are the entire profit margin.

This is a high-edge game — treat it accordingly

At 16.67%, 7 Up 7 Down costs roughly eight times what Andar Bahar does and four times what Dragon vs Tiger does. If you want your balance to last, this is not the game to grind. Play it for the pace, in small amounts.

No pattern exists to find

Dice have no memory and the app's generator reseeds every round. Five 7 Ups in a row does not make 7 Down more likely. Any 'trick' or 'prediction' content for this game is describing coincidence.

Common questions

What is the house edge in 7 Up 7 Down?

16.67% on 7 Up and 7 Down, and also 16.67% on Lucky 7 when it pays 4:1. If your app pays only 3:1 on Lucky 7, that bet's edge rises to 33.33%.

Is 7 Up or 7 Down more likely?

Neither. Both cover exactly 15 of the 36 possible dice combinations, or 41.67%. They are perfectly symmetrical.

Why does the total 7 come up most often?

There are six ways to roll a 7 with two dice — 1-6, 2-5, 3-4, 4-3, 5-2 and 6-1 — more than any other total. A 2 or a 12 has only one combination each.

What happens to my bet if the total is exactly 7?

Both 7 Up and 7 Down bets lose in full. Only the Lucky 7 bet wins. That rule is where the entire house edge comes from.

Is there a winning trick for 7 Up 7 Down?

No. Every outcome is independent and the odds are fixed. The only choice that changes your expected loss is avoiding a Lucky 7 that pays 3:1 instead of 4:1.

Is it better than Teen Patti or Andar Bahar?

Not on cost. Andar Bahar is about 2.15% and Dragon vs Tiger 3.73%, against 16.67% here. 7 Up 7 Down is faster and simpler, but considerably more expensive per round.
